On September 8, 2016, a Melody Monae fan wrote in his webcam broadcaster review, “This girl is extremely sexy. On top of her physical beauty, she’s probably the nicest girl at Chaturbate. Very cordial and appreciative. As engaging as she is beautiful, and who wouldn’t fall in love with that sexy giggle?” I wrote a way too short review of Melody that she doesn’t even know about here on Caramel’s TGirls back in March of 2016. The fan did a better job of describing Melody, but I got to do an interview. Hopefully I’ll give you a better idea of what she’s like this time around.
Caramel: I thought it was a wise move to throw your name into the hat for the TEA Show Fan’s Choice Award (www.theteashow.com). The voting period is closed and numbers are currently being tabulated, but I’m wishing you luck in the voting process. Judging by the success of your webcam fan base and large following, I think you could live a perfectly comfortable lifestyle solely from your webcam shows on chaturbate.com/melodymonae. Would you also like to crossover into major studio work on websites that feature trans talents?
Melody: Yes, I thought it was a wise move as well!!! Hopefully I’ll win! Probably not, but hopefully. I think about crossing over into major studio work from time to time! It’s all about what feels right and how its done for me. Plus, I am working on myself before I do cross over. If I did, never say never!
Caramel: What inspired you to do webcam shows and why did you choose Chaturbate as your webcam platform?
Melody: Well, I thought about doing webcam shows since I was 18. But I was really stuck on living a life without using my sexuality to benefit me. So I tried that. It wasn’t going as well. I felt I was stuck at a stand still. So I was actually going to get into escorting quietly. But I met my best friend who brought webcam shows up to me and it was kinda… just something I was going to try. Turned out I was actually likable which i didn’t expect and it was fun! I like Chaturbate the most because of the conversation that is on there! I like talking to people and joking around with them! It makes everything so much more fun!
Caramel: So you had someone who was able to help you learn the in’s and out’s of webcam broadcasting, or did you have to figure it out on your own?
Melody: I had my best-friend who helped me at first. Then you know… You learn how to try to perfect it… Make it more you! So luckily I wasn’t just scrambling around trying to figure it out! LOL!
Caramel: Now that you’ve got experience with camming, do you have any advice for someone just starting out?
Melody: YES! Have fun! Tease! Don’t take yourself to seriously! Set up goals! If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it! Also, don’t beg for money!
Caramel: What field were you in before you started camming and what was your major area of study?
Melody: Actually, I was working in retail. It was fun, but you know transitioning takes a bit more money than what that has to offer. I wasn’t going to school!
Caramel: Retail is a tough racket these days. That was my main thing before porn. Now let’s go back to the beginning. When did you first begin to feel that you might be trans?
Melody: I have always felt womanly. I’ve always identified as a girl. I just didn’t know how to explain it. I felt crazy. But around 13 was when it was brought up by a lady as a joke. LOL! I laughed, then girl, I got to thinking, it was like, “Hell, that makes sense.” I Googled it! Then, you know, I began my transition.
Caramel: Who did you first confide in about these feelings and what was the reaction?
Melody: I had a Latina friend who was so pretty! I told her about it and she was like, “Oh, well we just so happened to wear the same size.” So she gave me some of her clothes, but she moved! But we used to take pictures of me at 14 in my makeup and garments. She didn’t really understand it, but she kinda got the point.
Caramel: Were your parents and/or siblings accepting? Do they know about your adult industry career?
Melody: A: My dad was semi-understanding. He just wished I would have done it after I finished high school, rather than during it. We had our issues for sure though, but not solely on my transition. I actually didn’t care what he thought about all of it other than me finishing school. Same with my siblings. I didn’t care. It wasn’t about them. Funny enough, I was the oldest on my dad’s side. I had little sisters three years behind me. My mom had no choice so to speak. I grew up with my father. My mom kinda came back in my life after I had started my transition! She was very accepting, actually. But I think that was partly because she didn’t raise me. I have older brothers on her side. One understood very quickly, The other took a little bit of time, but he understood. We are all actually really good, compared to my sisters. We don’t speak.
Caramel: Your ethnic heritage is mixed race. Can describe it more specifically?
Melody: Yes! My dad is half Italian, and some other type of white. My mom is black! Probably other stuff too.
Caramel: Did you have to go through a lot of negative experiences like being too black for whites and too white for blacks when you were growing up?
Melody: Yes! I used to get called a nigger growing up by the white folks! Lol! Like often! Or a other racial remarks like a wetback, because they would assume I was Spanish because I would be around Latin people all the time growing up. Um, as far as black people, I guess when I would speak a certain way, they would think I was being fake. But other than that, not really any issues!
Caramel: When did you finally decide that you just had to go ahead and transition and when did your journey begin?
Melody: Oh, I used to wear makeup and things growing up. But I would always say I was a boy, until a lady brought up that I may be trans! It started at 14 for me! I felt like i had to transition then! Although, I did not start hormones until I was 21-22!
Caramel: I saw on Twitter @MelodyMonae that you’re familiar with Ts Madison’s YouTube take down of Gospel singer Kim Burrell. I’m a super fan of @TsMadisonatl1, but I wasn’t familiar with Burrell when I saw Madison’s YouTube vlog. I quickly learned that Burrell had a huge following, so I was shocked by her homophobic and transphobic comments. But on second thought, I wondered why I was so shocked because I was raised in the “Black Church.” Were you shocked by Burrell’s offensive rants?
Melody: Not at all. You know how church folks are! I got the most hell from people like that growing up! I do agree strongly with Ts Madison! I LOVEEEE TSMADISON! Maybe one day we can meet! That is my boo!
Caramel: I do know how church folks are. These days, about the only way to get me back into a church is basically for a funeral. You have a large Twitter following. How important do you feel that Twitter is in terms of exposure?
Melody: I do feel like Twitter is important. I actually only started Twitter for sugar daddys (LOL). But I’ve learned it’s a really nice way to reach new fans! Also to speak to them!
Caramel: I noticed that and your interaction with people is obviously very well appreciated. You recently watched the 1995 movie “Clueless” again, with Alicia Silverstone in the lead role and Stacey Dash as a supporting actress. Dash was a co-host on Fox News Channel talk show Outnumbered and Fox recently informed her that they would not be renewing her contract. Were you surprised by the network’s decision and the public’s reaction to this situation?
Melody: No I wasn’t. I feel like they used her for their own agenda. And I also felt like she was kissing ass. LOL.
Caramel: I agree. I knew her mom when I was in retail and I’ll bet her family is taking the whole situation pretty hard. Moving in a different direction, someone recently stole one or more of your cam shows and re-posted on their website, but you managed you managed to successfully have your content removed. Congratulations on that! I think there are only a few things more harmful going on in the adult industry than piracy from a business standpoint. Do you think that porn will ever be able to recuperate from piracy the way the music industry once did decades ago after the Napster (and other file-sharing platforms) situation?
Melody: Oh yes, They steal that shit, Good thing it’s illegal… Makes it easy to get it taken down, Lmao. Pissed me off. Um, I don’t know if they can. It would take a lot of effort I’d assume, and money! But hopefully, because a lot of the times, these are people’s careers.
Caramel: Precisely! So what sort of music do you listen to?
Melody: Hip Hop and R&B are my favorite genres! Stuff that makes me feel sexy!
Caramel: Do you have any favorite books or other favorite movies?
Melody: I hate saying this but, I love anything that has to do with fantasy, SO even thought this response is so basic, The Harry Potter books are my favorites! I love the movie Pretty Woman, anything to do with Cinderella as well!
Caramel: J.K. Rowling is a genius. I see nothing wrong with or silly about being a Harry Potter stories and movies fan. Do you watch porn? If so, what genres do you like watching?
Melody: Yes I watch porn! Gay porn is my fav. Solo!
Caramel: I love gay porn also! I tried blogging about it for a few years, but people are mainly interested in my trans porn reviews and interviews so that didn’t catch on with people who read my work. So what’s the sweetest thing someone’s said to you recently?
Melody: Honestly, I don’t know! I haven’t been told anything that stands out that is sweet recently!
Caramel: That mystifies me. I’d say something sweet now, but that would be too easy. What’s the sexiest thing someone’s done recently to turn you on?
Melody: No one has done anything recently that turned me on. Lmao I sound so boring! I haven’t been in a relationship for a while!
Caramel: Damn, girl. Now I’m really surprised! What features about yourself are you most proud of?
Melody: My smile, And my eyes! I love them! Oh, and my cock!
Caramel: Now I’m back to not being surprised. What features get the most compliments?
Melody: Mmm, my smile for sure! My skin tone. My curly hair, oh and let’s not forget my dick and boobs!
Caramel: Who could forget!? I’m sure you hear the words, “Oh my God, you’re so beautiful and you have such a big cock!” quite often. Does it ever bother you when your endowment makes its way into a compliment, or do you usually just take it in stride as another form of praise?
Melody: I definitely take it as a compliment. I have grown to love it, so the compliments are nice as well!
Caramel: What do you find attractive and sexy in men and other women and what are big turn offs? How do you identify sexually by the way?
Melody: I like guys who are smart, you know? I like guys who are thoughtful, The way they carry themselves is important as well! Cleanliness! I am not attracted to women personally, but I do admire a girl who is comfortable with their sexuality, and themselves… Like they way they move with confidence and pride. I would say straight because I prefer men!
Caramel: Describe yourself in five words.
Melody: Caring, Sweet, Loving, Sexy, Stubborn.
Caramel: Is there anyone in particular working in the adult industry you’d like to work with someday?
Melody: Damn I don’t know. I guess someone who people wouldn’t expect me to work with… I’m not super aware of people in the industry!
Caramel: I am! We’ll talk about that more privately because there are some hot guys I know who would walk on glass to work with you. Do you feel compelled to settle down and start a family anytime soon?
Melody: Yes, sometimes, but I think I will ride the wave for a little longer before I settle down!
Caramel: What’s next for Melody Monae in life in general and in the adult industry at large?
Melody: Maybe a few porn shoots, just a few like 2 or 5! LOL! We will see what happens! I don’t even know yet! Hopefully great things!
Caramel: Thank you so much for doing this interview with me, Melody.
Melody: Thank you for these questions, I had a lot of fun answering them! <3 Thank you for your time as well!
